Weekly CloudNews: Cloud Misconfigurations Cause Major Compliance Risks
Welcome to this week’s edition of CloudBolt’s Weekly CloudNews!
Earlier this week, we recapped our recent webinar with AWS, looked at cloud monitoring tools, cloud governance and why a cloud management suite is critical for any organization.
With that, onto this week’s news:
Why security needs to be integral to DevOps
Louis Columbus, CloudTech News, July 27, 2020
“DevOps teams thrive in organisations built for speed, continuous integration, delivery and improvement. Contrast the high-speed always-on nature of DevOps teams with the one-time gating inspections security teams use to verify regulatory, industry and internal security and compliance standards and it’s clear security’s role in DevOps needs to change. Integrating security into DevOps is proving to be very effective at breaking through the roadblocks that stand in the way of getting projects done on time and launched into the market.
By 2025 nearly two-thirds of enterprises will be prolific software producers with code deployed daily to meet constant demand and over 90% of new apps will be cloud-native, enabling agility and responsiveness according to IDC FutureScape: Worldwide IT Industry 2020 Predictions. IDC also predicts there will be 1.6 times more developers than now, all working in collaborative systems to enable innovation. The bottom line is that every company will be a technology company in the next five years according to IDC’s predictions.”
Cloud Misconfigurations a Major Compliance Risk, Say IT Decision Makers
James Coker, Info Security Group, July 23, 2020
“‘From Capital One to the US government, the list of serious data leaks and breaches via misconfigured cloud systems is growing by the second. Trend Micro’s Cloud One – Conformity offering detects 230 million of these errors every single day,” commented Bharat Mistry, principal security strategist at Trend Micro.
‘This tells us something important: organizations are struggling to find the in-house skills needed to keep pace with their complex hybrid and multi-cloud deployments. With just a few clicks of a mouse potentially exposing highly sensitive and regulated data, CISOs need to consider investments such as cloud security posture management to tackle escalating risk.’”
Hybrid cloud sets businesses on the path to the cloud edge
Chris Kelly, Comms MEA, July 23, 2020
“Quite rightly, there is much attention surrounding edge computing, with Gartner estimating over 50 percent of enterprise data will be created and processed at the edge within two years. When broken down, it is essentially a localised cloud infrastructure that can be delivered to specific locations and use cases – with businesses that have hybrid cloud strategies already moving towards the edge. Should strategies be based on an open framework, they will have the freedom to select the best third-party resources available to underpin their cloud edge proposition. In the absence of a standard cloud edge computing model, large enterprises are now seeking guidance in the right direction.”
